Feasibility study of electrical discharge machining based on huma oil working fluid

  • Traditional working fluids used in electrical discharge machining(EDM), such as kerosene or hydrocarbon mineral oil, suffer from low processing efficiency, poor surface quality, environmental pollution, and resource consumption issues. Green and sustainable manufacturing is currently a major trend in development. Therefore, this study proposes the experimental investigation of using Huma oil as a working fluid in electrical discharge machining, aiming to achieve green and sustainable EDM processes. The study examines the effects of key process parameters, including current, pulse width, and gap voltage, on material removal rate, surface roughness, and surface quality. The experimental results demonstrate that Huma oil not only possesses environmental potential but also exhibits significant performance advantages in the EDM process. When Huma oil is used as the working fluid, the material removal rate is significantly improved, resulting in better surface finish, reduced surface cracks, and thinner recast layer. This research holds significant implications for the engineering and manufacturing fields, as it has the potential to further promote the development and application of green EDM technology.
